Port Tack Start

In a sailboat race, boats start on a starting line between a committee boat, and a buoy, usually with the wind coming toward the starting line. Those boats on starboard tack (facing forward on the boat, the wind would be coming over the right hand side) have right-of-way. Those boats approaching the starting line on Port Tack (wind coming over the left hand side) must give way to the boats on Starboard.

A Port Tack start is a dangerous move, but, with the right conditions, and the right timing it is a thing of beauty to watch. You have to be judicious as to when to call for the port tack start, and it is something that can make you look really stupid if executed poorly...much like a blog...

So the name "Port Tack Start" seems fitting - I hope that my timing is on, and that it all works out....but remember, if you aren't over the line once in a while, you aren't trying hard enough. I'm looking forward to crafting articles about my life and thoughts that you will find interesting - and let me know what strikes you, and what doesn't.

I'll be posting about everything from Sailing , Skiing, & playing hockey as a 46 year old -to coaching Kids Basketball, what wine we had that was fantastic, and what we had for dinner - not necessarily in that order -

It should be a lot of fun !
